DENSEL'S INVESTIGATIONS
This is an investigation on the usefulness of the old technology known as the
"carbon-arc lamp", which was invented in 1801. When I began the investigation I knew it was
a simple electric light that wasn't as convenient as modern lightbulbs but was easier to make
than them and much brighter. Just one carbon arc-lamp has the potential of eleven modern
lightbulbs. They are easily made too, basically consisting of just two carbon rods with an arc
of the same material in the center. They were used for lighting on rare occasions throughout
the 1800s, like to light streets and department stores. And according to a poll I made on
Google Forms, a lot of people feel inconvenienced with our modern lights and are interested in
this investigation.
